EPL: Man Utd were humbled 4-0 by Crystal Palace in a new low for Erik ten Hag

Jamie Carragher says Manchester United are "one of the most poorly coached teams in the Premier League" after their 4-0 defeat to Crystal Palace - and added that Casemiro should "call it a day at the top level of football".
Speaking after their 4-0 defeat to Crystal Palace, Jamie Carragher was critical of Man Utd's performance and said they are one of the most poorly coached teams in the Premier League

Erik ten Hag's side reached new depths in their well below-par season, falling 2-0 down at half-time to goals from Michael Olise and Jean-Philippe Mateta, before the former rounded off the scoring after Tyrick Mitchell found the net after the break.

After Newcastle and Chelsea's weekend wins dropped United to eighth, Erik ten Hag's side needed to produce a response in their bid for European qualification - instead, their efforts were called "shambolic" by Ashley Young, the former United player, on Monday Night Football.

Casemiro, in particular, suffered a bruising evening after once again being pressed into action at centre-back. He was left floundering by Olise for Palace's first goal, with Jamie Carragher calling his attempted tackle "embarrassing".

United have now conceded 81 goals in all competitions this season, their most in a single campaign since 1977, as they run the risk of missing out on European football altogether next season.

Crystal Palace made one change, with Eberechi Eze replacing Jordan Ayew, while captain Marc Guehi returned to the bench after injury.

Erik ten Hag sack

Manchester United 'make Erik ten Hag sack decision' after Crystal Palace defeat

The manager’s fate has been sealed but there will not be a new face in the dugout just yet

Manchester United have decided that Erik ten Hag will not be sacked before the FA Cup Final

The club are guaranteed to endure one of their worst seasons in Premier League history under the guidance of the beleaguered manager.

Monday evening’s 4-0 humbling at the hands of Crystal Palace confirming they will not better their worst ever points tally, which stands at the 58 accured in the 2021-22 season.

The loss at Selhurst Park was also a 13th league defeat of the season, which is a record.

United remain in the hunt for European football and a finish lower than seventh would be a record worst league standing at the end of a Premier League campaign.

But, according to the Telegraph, Ten Hag will be allowed to at least see out the rest of the season, which culminates with the FA Cup final against Manchester City on May 25.

The report adds that many of the first-team squad expect Ten Hag to be sacked and replaced this summer, with the decision already made despite what happens in the FA Cup final.

United have three games remaining in their league campaign before the trip to Wembley Stadium, starting at home to Arsenal and Newcastle United before a final day trip to face Brighton.

Asked on Monday if he believes he is still the right person to lead United, Ten Hag said: “Absolutely. If the right players are there, so available, then we have a good squad. But we miss almost the full back line, then we have problems..”
