Trent Alexander-Arnold is congratulated after the cross for Chris Wood's own goal
Chris Wood was unfortunate to deflect Trent Alexander-Arnold's cross beyond his own goalkeeper in the 33rd minute and Sadio Mane doubled the lead soon after.

Roberto Firmino sealed the points late on to maintain Liverpool's perfect start as they broke their record of 12 consecutive league victories set under Kenny Dalglish in 1990.

MAN CITY 4-0 BRIGHTON

Sergio Aguero scored twice in a clinical 4-0 win over Brighton at the Etihad Stadium.

Kevin De Bruyne gave the hosts the lead after just 68 seconds as he met David Silva's cross to convert from close range.

Aguero completed a fine team goal three minutes before the break as the Argentine fired home from De Bruyne's cross, and he added a second 10 minutes into the restart with a trademark strike into the top corner.

Substitute Bernardo Silva added a fourth just 17 seconds after coming on (79) as Aguero turned provider.

The only low point for Pep Guardiola was an injury to Aymeric Laporte after the defender was carried off on a stretcher with a knee injury following a heavy challenge on Adam Webster in the first half.

Chelsea draw 2-2 with Sheffield United

Sheffield United staged a spirited second-half fightback to pick up a deserved 2-2 draw with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

After falling behind to Tammy Abraham's first-half double (19 and 43), the Blades responded with great confidence and character after the break.

Callum Robinson (46) swept home just after the break before his cross was deflected into the home team's net by Chelsea defender Kurt Zouma (89) to send the away end wild.

The result means Frank Lampard is still waiting for his first home win as Chelsea manager.

Lampard blames team rather than defence:

Chelsea's Frank Lampard says that they gave away the game against Sheffield United after being 2-0 up at half-time.

"It's not just the defence - we concede as a team," Lampard said regarding Chelsea's defensive record.

"The lack of concentration and defensive mistakes are moments that you defend as a team. We conceded because we switched off in a game we should be comfortably seeing out. That's not disrespectful to Sheffield United as at 2-0 up that's not the end of the story. I was clear with the players at half-time.

"We only have ourselves to look at as a group, not individually."

Southampton 1-1 Man Utd:

Jannik Vestergaard cancels out Daniel James strike as Red Devils are held

United pushed for a winner in the closing stages, with James, substitute Mason Greenwood and Ashley Young all going close, but they were unable to make their man advantage count, making it three Premier League games without a win for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side.

It was Southampton who started brightest, their pressing causing United problems in the early exchanges, but James' goal - clinically dispatched from Scott McTominay's pass after Cedric Soares and Jan Bednarek had backed off him, tipped the momentum in the visitors' favour.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka went close to doubling United's advantage when he volleyed wide from another McTominay pass soon afterwards, while James also went close when he stung the palms of Gunn with another fierce effort as United piled on the pressure.

It was another disappointing result for Solskjaer's side, who have now taken just five points from their first four games of the season having also slipped up against Crystal Palace and Wolves.

For Southampton, though, the draw was a welcome and well-deserved boost which moved them clear of the relegation zone.
