LYON 2-2 MAN CITY

Manchester City secured qualification to the Champions League last 16 with a game remaining following an entertaining 2-2 draw at Lyon on Tuesday.

After missing several first-half chances, Maxwel Cornet finally got his goal 10 minutes into the second half, seeing a curling shot deflect off Oleksandr Zinchenko and in, but Aymeric Laporte levelled seven minutes later with a close-range header.
Cornet then restored Lyon's lead late on (81) but Sergio Aguero leapt superbly to nod home a Riyad Mahrez corner two minutes later to secure City's passage to the last 16.

AS ROMA 0-2 REAL MADRID

Los Blancos were the beneficiaries of some incredibly wasteful finishing from the Italians in the first half and a monumental defensive gaffe early in the second half that led to Gareth Bale's opener. Real would tack on a second from Lucas Vazquez shorty before the hour mark and cruised the rest of the way to the three points.

Manager Santiago Solari shocked everyone by leaving Isco off the matchday roster even though the midfielder had only played the final 27 minutes of last Saturday's league defeat at Eibar. Also remaining out was the injured Casemiro, who was replaced by Marcos Llorente, while Lucas Vazquez got the nod to join Bale and Karim Benzema up top in attack.

Real were already feeling good even before a ball was kicked, as news filtered through of Viktoria Plzen's victory over CSKA Moscow, ensuring that both Real and Roma had officially qualified for the next round.

Of the two, Roma were the more dangerous going forward to start and the hosts could have easily scored the first of the night on a scramble in the area, only for Real goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois and right-back Dani Carvajal to make back-to-back saves. The rebound on the second then fell to Aleksandar Kolarov, who fired a bullet that just missed wide.

Lady luck was on Real side, as again Roma squandered a golden opportunity to score right before half-time. Carvajal lost a ball deep in the Real half and it was all there for Cengiz Under to give Roma the lead. The Turkish attacker had Courtois beat and only needed to convert from a few yards out, but incredibly, hammered his shot over the crossbar.

Roma only had themselves to blame for what would happen at the start of the second half, as defender Federico Fazio inexplicably attempted to play a header back to his goalkeeper and instead served it up to Bale on a silver platter. The Welshman had the easiest of finishes for give Real a 1-0 lead.

Bale should have added a second just moments later after receiving an impeccable long ball from Marcelo, but Roma goalkeeper Robin Olsen snuffed out Bale's weak shot.

For all the good fortune they received on their first goal, Real worked just as hard to create their second. It started with Modric slipping a pass to Bale, who curled in a cross that Benzema headed back across goal perfectly for Lucas Vazquez to latch onto and redirect in for the 2-0 lead.

Real were in complete control, constantly pelting Olsen in the Roma goal with shots and the Roma faithful were none too pleased, showering their players with ear-piercing whistles.

While the home side did avoid the indignity of conceding a third goal, they were unable to trouble Courtois and the Real defence the rest of the way, making for a straightforward 45 minutes of work for Solari's men in the second half.

JUVENTUS 1-0 VALENCIA

Mario Mandzukic put Juventus ahead against Valencia
Mario Mandzukic's tap-in was enough to send Juventus into the last 16 of the Champions League with a 1-0 win against Valencia.

Tuesday night's hosts went into the game knowing a point would see them through to the knockout stages and although the performance was not the most polished, they did their job.

After a goalless first half - which saw Mouctar Diakhaby go close with a header just before half-time in the pick of Valencia's chances - Mandzukic slotted home a Cristiano Ronaldo cross to see Juventus into the next round.
