Man City beat West Ham 2-0

Erling Haaland marked his Premier League debut with a well-taken double against West Ham. The striker became the second Man City player to score twice as a debutant, following Sergio Aguero in 2011; Pep Guardiola praised an "exceptional" team performance.

City began their Premier League title defence in confident fashion by brushing aside West Ham 2-0 in front of a record crowd at the London Stadium.

A crowd of 62,443 packed into the Hammers' home ground - the biggest of any London-based club - only to be met by the towering presence of Haaland and the wizardry of Ilkay Gundogan.

It is going to become a familiar sight this season: Kevin de Bruyne picking the ball up in the middle of the pitch, lifting his head and playing a defence-shredding pass through for Erling Haaland to race away from his markers and slot a clinical finish past a despairing goalkeeper.

FULHAM 2-2 LIVERPOOL

Liverpool twice came from behind to secure a point with newly-promoted Fulham at Craven Cottage. Aleksandar Mitrovic scores both goals for hosts as Darwin Nunez opens his Premier League account as second-half substitute.

Fulham came close to producing one of the biggest shocks on the opening weekend of any Premier League season as Aleksandar Mitrovic marked his return to the top flight with two goals in a 2-2 draw with Liverpool at Craven Cottage.

Mohamed Salah levelled for the visitors with 10 minutes remaining to deny Marco Silva's side a famous victory after a performance full of endeavour that celebrated Fulham being back in the top division.

Much has been made of whether Mitrovic can cut it at this level, having scored just three goals in his last Premier League campaign two seasons ago, but he bullied Trent Alexander-Arnold for his headed opener (32) before striking a precise penalty after being fouled inside the box by Virgil van Dijk (72).

Darwin Nunez came off the bench to open his account (64) and cancel out Mitrovic's first effort from Salah's cross while Jordan Henderson might have won it for Liverpool in second half stoppage time when his curled effort cannoned off the crossbar.

Jurgen Klopp told BT Sport: "The best thing about the game was the result. We got a point from a really bad game. The result was fine, I don't think we deserved more than that. The performance can be massively improved.

Brighton win 2-1 at Man Utd

Pascal Gross scores twice before half-time but Alexis Mac Allister's own goal gave the hosts hope of a comeback but failed to score a goal of theirs at full-time.

Erik ten Hag suffers defeat in his first Premier League game in charge of United

Pascal Gross' first-half double gave Brighton a surprise 2-1 win at Manchester United.
The unmarked Brighton midfielder found himself in the right place, at the right time, to tap the visitors into a 2-0 lead with two goals in nine minutes in the Old Trafford sunshine, as the hosts - with Cristiano Ronaldo starting on the bench - were booed off at half-time by their own fans

Leicester 2-2 Brentford

Brentford fight back from two goals down to secure a 2-2 draw at Leicester. Goals from Timothy Castagne and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall gave the Foxes a 2-0 lead but strikes from Ivan Toney and substitute Josh Dasilva ensured the Bees came away with a point.

Brentford boss Thomas Frank hailed his side's determination and mentality after the Bees fought back from two goals down to snatch a deserved 2-2 draw at Leicester.

Brendan Rodgers' side were on course for a comfortable Premier League victory at the King Power Stadium after goals either side of half-time from Timothy Castagne and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall saw them grab the advantage.
