TOTTENHAM 3-0 DORTMUND
Tottenham produced a scintillating second-half performance to beat Borussia Dortmund 3-0 in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie at Wembley.
Heung-Min Son scored for the fourth game in a row to put Spurs ahead in the 47th minute.
Jan Vertonghen then volleyed in from Serge Aurier's cross in the 83rd minute before substitute Fernando Llorente headed in from a corner (86).
Dortmund looked shell-shocked and now have a mountain to climb in the return leg on March 5.
The Bundesliga leaders had looked the brighter side in the first half but they could not match Spurs when they raised their level after half-time.
Son's goal - his ninth in 11 games against Dortmund - set the tone for a dominant finish from Mauricio Pochettino's side that has put them on the brink of the last eight for the first time since 2011.
Such a one-sided result in favour of Tottenham looked unlikely early in the game as Dortmund started positively.
Spurs did see an eighth-minute shot from Lucas Moura whistle just past the post, but they were fortunate not to fall behind when Juan Foyth lost the ball in his own box and Christian Pulisic failed to beat Lloris at the near post.
The lively Jadon Sancho asked questions of Tottenham's defence, but Dortmund could not find the final pass.
Thomas Delaney's shot from outside the box was palmed out by Hugo Lloris before Spurs started to threaten as Christian Eriksen fired over and then Roman Burki saved with an outstretched leg from Son.
Dortmund went close to breaking the deadlock late in the first half but Lloris produced a brilliant diving save to claw away a header from Dan-Axel Zagadou on the line.
Spurs looked a team transformed after half-time as they attacked with more vigour and intensity.
Son opened the scoring in the 47th minute when he volleyed in from Vertonghen's cross, before Vertonghen fired over after a driving run and then Eriksen shot at Burki.
Dortmund were pinned back inside their own half and Spurs added to their lead late in the game.
Vertonghen finished from Aurier's excellent cross before Llorente headed in from a corner to put Spurs in firm control of the tie.
AJAX 1-2 REAL MADRID
Real Madrid edged past Ajax 2-1 with the help of VAR, which was used for the first time in the Champions League to disallow a goal for the hosts.
Second-half goals from Karim Benzema (60) and Marco Asensio (87) either side of Hakim Ziyech's effort (75) hand Madrid a big advantage heading to the second leg at the Bernabeu.
However, Ajax thought they scored the all-important opening goal in the first half but Nicolas Tagliafico's header was ruled out by VAR due to a marginal offside call on Dusan Tadic, who was obstructing Thibaut Courtois.
Ajax were taking part in the Champions League knockout stages for the first time in 13 years and equipped themselves brilliantly for large periods.
MAN U 0-2 PSG
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer lost for the first time as Manchester United caretaker manager as Paris Saint-Germain ran out 2-0 winners in the Champions League last-16 first leg at Old Trafford, with Paul Pogba sent off late on.
After a heated first half, the visitors were clinical with two quick-fire goals; first Presnel Kimpembe turned home at the far post from an Angel Di Maria corner (53), before Kylian Mbappe finished off from another Di Maria assist (60), giving United a huge task to overcome.
It would have been more but for some fine goalkeeping from David de Gea, but matters were made worse when Pogba was dismissed late on for a second yellow card, meaning he will miss the second leg.
United registered just one shot on target as Solskjaer was defeated having gone unbeaten in his first 11 games, meaning an uphill task in the second leg at Parc des Princes on Wednesday, March 6.
There were five yellow cards in a fiery first 45 minutes as both sides cancelled each other out, but the best of the chances did fall to the visitors. Former United midfielder Di Maria curled wide from range early on, before Mbappe slid in to poke wide under pressure from De Gea after being played through on goal by Julian Draxler.
On a yellow card, Young then nudged Di Maria out of play and into the railings at Old Trafford, prompting anger from the PSG players, but Italian referee Daniele Orsato kept his second yellow card in his pocket on this occasion.
Solksjaer's plans were impacted when Jesse Lingard, just before half-time, and Anthony Martial, at the interval, were forced off with injuries, introducing on Juan Mata and Alexis Sanchez, while De Gea was at his best to turn away Mbappe's header moments before PSG's opener.
Getting on the end of a Di Maria corner, Kimpembe lost Nemanja Matic at the back post before side-footing into the back of the net from close range.
A minute later, Dani Alves' effort deflected off Pogba and inches wide with De Gea rooted, but PSG did get their second as they broke up with the pitch with Di Maria on the left, squaring for Mbappe to simply slot home after beating Eric Bailly to the ball.
It should have been three but for De Gea's clawed save from Mbappe when the Frenchman went through one-on-one again, and the goalkeeper once more kept the score down, beating away Juan Bernat's fierce angled shot.
And there was a late flashpoint as Pogba was sent off for a second booking from card-happy Orsato, who showed 10 yellows overall, meaning United will miss a key man for the second leg in three weeks' time.
ROMA 2-1 PORTO
Nicolo Zaniolo scored twice to give Roma a 2-1 win at home to Porto in the first leg of the Champions League round of 16 on Tuesday.
Zaniolo has emerged as one of Serie A's most promising talents this season since his transfer from Inter Milan last summer as part of the deal which saw Radja Nainggolan move the other way.
And the 19-year-old added his first Champions League goals by netting in the 70th and 76th minute for Roma, before Adrian Lopez pulled one back for Porto three minutes later.
