Manchester United proved no match for a lively West Ham as Mourinho's men were thrashed 3-1 by the Pelegrini's side.
The Hammers, with only one win in the previous 19 top-flight meetings, were ahead after just five minutes through club-record signing Felipe Anderson's clever back-heeled finish from Pablo Zabaleta's cross - despite both players appearing to be offside.
And the hosts doubled their advantage on the brink of half-time in fortunate fashion, as Andriy Yarmolenko's shot cannoned in off Victor Lindelof and beyond the wrong-footed David de Gea.
Marcus Rashford responded for the largely pedestrian visitors on 71 minutes, but Marko Arnautovic restored the Hammers' two-goal lead less than three minutes later as Mark Noble's pass sliced through United's unconvincing back-line.
The Red Devils also picked up 10 points from their opening seven fixtures in 2013-14 under David Moyes, but their margin of defeat made this their worst top-flight start since they accrued just seven points in 1989-90.
The visitors came into this game on the back of a Carabao Cup exit to Derby County during the week, with a fall-out between Mourinho and Paul Pogba also making headlines for the wrong reasons. This result will only add to the misery currently around Old Trafford.
The Hammers started well and took the lead after just six minutes when Felipe Anderson got on the end of a Pablo Zabaleta cross to flick a finish past David De Gea in the Man Utd. From there, West Ham never looked back, doubling their advantage before half time, with Andriy Yarmolenko’s deflected strike ending up in the back of the net.
Man Utd looked to have found a foothold in the game when substitute Marcus Rashford clawed one back with a clever backheel volley from a corner kick. But the fightback only lasted a few minutes as Marko Arnautovic scored a third to restore West Ham’s two-goal cushion and secure three points.

Right from the moment the team lineups were released this looked like being a strange performance from Man Utd. Scott McTominay was in as a centre back in a back three, with Marouane Fellaini, Nemanja Matic and Paul Pogba the midfield three and Ashley Young on the right side. This system handed the initiative to the Hammers and they used that to score twice in the first half. West Ham played well and deserved their win, but Mourinho’s tactics handed them this game on a plate.

The Hammers took a grip of the game from the very start, with Anderson scoring an early opener in style, beating David De Gea with a cheeky flicked finish. But the former Lazio playmaker’s game was about more than just this goal. He was the one who set the tempo for West Ham in the final third, dictating their play on the counter attack in the second half as well. Anderson has taken some time to get going at his new club, with injuries restricting him, but on this showing he is starting too find his feet. Mark Noble was also impressive, it must be said, as was Arnautovic and Declan Rice.
