Man City, Barca out of UCL

Manchester City is out of the UEFA Champions League, as Liverpool defeated the Premier League leaders for the third time in four tries, this time a 2-1 set back at the Etihad Stadium that puts the Reds into the semifinals.

In Italy, Roma knocked La Liga giants Barcelona out of this season’s UEFA Champion’s League quarterfinals by beating them 3-0 to qualify on away goals even though the tie ended 4-4 on aggregate.

Liverpool sees off City

Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino scored for a 5-1 aggregate win, with Gabriel Jesus scoring Man City’s goal early.

Heads whipped up to the clock. It read just over two minutes, and Manchester City’s Gabriel Jesus had just shaped a shot around the splayed Loris Karius to make it 3-1 on aggregate.

Sadio Mane saw yellow for a studs first challenge that perhaps unintentionally slipped into Nicolas Otamendi’s groin.

A dangerous free kick near the end line was next, but City could not cut the deficit to one.

Bernardo Silva chested down a diagonal ball and played to the top of the box for Kevin De Bruyne, who’s low shot was not a problem for Karius. It remained 1-0 (1-3) in the 27th minute.

City continued to control play, and Silva curled a 20-yard shot that took a slight turn off Dejan Lovren and onto the far post at the dawn of the 42nd minute.

Leroy Sane then saw a goal controversially pulled back for offside.

Then this happened; Firmino scored a second goal for Liverpool which sealed the victory for Klopp's side.

Roma Vs Barca

Roma have knocked La Liga giants Barcelona out of this season’s UEFA Champion’s League quarterfinals by beating them 3-0 to qualify on away goals even though the tie ended 4-4 on aggregate.

The first leg at the Nou Camp had ended 4-1 for the Blaugrana, but that didn’t really reflect the performances of the two sides at Camp Nou, especially as the Giallorossi scored two own goals.

Edin Dzeko scored from the spot in the 6th minute, the wonderful De Rossi added a second in the 58th and Manola scored the third to send Roma through in the 82nd minute.

Last week, Edin Dzeko’s single away goal at the Nou Camp kept a slender hope alive, as the away goal means Roma can qualify tonight with a 3-0 victory. This they did in emphatic fashion as they dominated a lacklustre Barca side 3-0 to advance into the last four.

It’s a result they already earned in previous seasons against Chelsea in the Champions League group stage and have not conceded any home goals in their four European matches so far this season.

Only twice  has a Champions League side overturned a three-goal deficit in the knockout rounds. They were Deportivo La Coruna against Milan in 2003-04 and Barcelona with PSG last year.
