Emre Can's overhead kick secured the win for Liverpool |
Liverpool took a significant step to sealing Champions League qualification as Emre Can scored a goal of the season contender to down Watford 1-0 on Monday night.
Jurgen Klopp had seen Manchester City, Manchester United and Arsenal drop points in the battle for the Premier League top four before his side travelled to Vicarage Road - and they took full advantage.
A 1-0 win at Vicarage Road on Monday strengthened Liverpool's grip on third place ahead of Manchester City and Manchester United, who they lead by three and four points respectively.
Maximum points from Liverpool's last three games - against Southampton, West Ham United and Middlesbrough - will guarantee the Reds a Champions League qualification place, but Klopp is taking nothing for granted. Jurgen Klopp insists Champions League not yet secure for Liverpool.
"We need to stay focused, we need to stay concentrated," said Klopp.
"We have pressure until the end of the season, but that's a positive pressure. It means we are fighting for something.
"So we'll do everything for the points we can get, but it won't be easy.
"If people think we already have the three points against Southampton then they've not seen them play this season. Another really strong side.
"Nobody can take these points away from us tonight and now we have time to work and prepare for the Southampton game [on Sunday]."
Emre Can's spectacular overhead kick proved decisive in the one-goal win over the Hornets, and Klopp has been delighted with the player's form since returning from a calf injury - with the likes of Jordan Henderson and Sadio Mane still sidelined.
"It's not a surprise," Klopp told Sky Sports. "In this moment, we have three experienced players if you like with Lucas, Georginio Wijnaldum and now with Emre."
"We have all of these situations [with injuries] so it is important that Emre is a bit more mature so that's important."
