The victory now means Mourinho has made history by becoming the only manager to win the Europa League and the Champions League on two separates occasion each.
The United manager won the UEFA Cup with Porto in 2003 before winning the Champions League with the Portuguese club the following year.
Mourinho’s second Champions League victory came with Inter’s impressive treble in 2010.
And now Wednesday night’s result has sealed Mourinho’s place in the history books.
Interestingly, Rafa Benitez is the closest manager to matching Mourinho’s record.
The Spaniard needs only one more win in the Champions League, having already won the UEFA Cup/Europa League on two occasions with Valencia and Chelsea.

Manchester United are now expected to push through their £86million move for Antoine Griezmann, according to reports.
The Times claims that the Atletico Madrid forward wants his future resolved within the next three weeks before he goes away on his honeymoon.
Griezmann has been one of Mourinho’s priority targets for months and United are ready to activate the £86m release clause in the 26-year-old’s contract.
Earlier this week, Griezmann was directly asked to give his chances of joining Old Trafford, to which he replied: ‘6/10’.
It’s understood that the France international did have reservations about linking up with Jose Mourinho if United were not in the Champions League.

But United’s 2-0 victory over Ajax in the Europa League final on Wednesday has secured the club’s automatic place in the Champions League group stage next season.
On Tuesday, Griezmann fuelled speculation even further by claiming that he is ready to leave Atletico.
‘I’ve reached a point where playing nice football and scoring goals isn’t enough,’ he said.
‘Winning titles, that’s what I’m looking for. We finished third in La Liga, it was the objective of the club, but we the players – we want more.
‘If I have to move, it’s not a problem. It can be England, because it’s the trend, Germany, China or USA. I’m ready to leave.’
When asked about United’s summer transfers after his side’s Europa League win, Mourinho told BT Sport: ‘Ed Woodward has my analysis, has what I want, what I would like for more than two months.
‘Now it’s for him, now for the owners and the people who work with him [to sort], so I just wait.
‘But I don’t care about football for now.’
