The Blues suffered a shock 2-1 defeat at home against Crystal Palace, a result that cut their advantage at the top of the standings to just seven points. Manchester United also dropped points on Saturday, slumping to a scoreless draw against West Bromwich Albion, and Liverpool beat Everton in the Merseyside derby.
Seven points is still a significant lead for the Blues, even if Chelsea played one of their worst matches of the season on Saturday. Diego Costa missed several great chances in the 2-1 defeat, while Cesc Fabregas was the only player for the hosts to find the net.
For once, Chelsea's magnificent defence fell well short of the expectations, giving away the lead. Wilfried Zaha and Christian Benteke found the net shortly after Fabregas' opener.
Chelsea are still in pole position to win the title, but the pressure will have increased significantly, especially with what's in store. As shared by Simon Johnson of the London Evening Standard, Manchester City visit Stamford Bridge next:
Premier League Results ( week 30 Saturday)
Premier League Standings updated today 1/04/2017
Manchester United:
Jose Mourinho's side were utterly dominant but came up against a resolute West Brom side whose keeper, former United star Ben Foster, made two outstanding second-half saves to deny them the win.
United have now dropped a remarkable 19 points at home in the league this season, eight draws and a defeat to Manch City undermining their hopes of making the top-four and an immediate return to the Champions League.
Manchester United were without Paul Pogba, Juan Mata and Zlatan Ibrahimovic and predictably struggled for creativity against West Brom, playing out a drab, scoreless draw.
The best chances fell to the hosts, but overall, the 0-0 scoreline was fair. But Samuel Luckhurst of the Manchester Evening News was not impressed:
Spurs:
Tottenham Hotspur added some excitement to the 2016-17 Premier League title race on Saturday, as the team beat Burnley to close the gap to leaders Chelsea in Week 30.
Spurs have done an excellent job coping with Harry Kane's absence so far, and the team recorded yet another win on Saturday.
Eric Dier and Heung-Min Son took care of the scoring after the break, as Burnley put together a solid challenge but eventually fell short.
Former England international Gary Lineker wasn't sure whether Saturday's result will have an impact on the title race:
Everton manager Ronald Koeman had a more positive reaction to his team after the derby defeat against Liverpool:
Liverpool:
The Reds played with more maturity in Saturday's early match, and Sadio Mane, Divock Origi and Philippe Coutinho all found the net. Liverpool's tactical plan worked to perfection, and Everton couldn't cope with the constant movement as the fell 3-1.
