MANCHESTER UNITED EUROPA LEAGUE JOURNEY STARTS WITH 1-0 LOSS TO FEYNOORD

Rasford rues defeat

A pretty low week comes to an end for Manchester United with a second successive defeat after they’re beaten 1-0 by Feyenoord in Rotterdam.

It was a game low on quality but the better of the chances went the way of Gio van Bronckorst’s men.

The goal may ultimately have been offside, but there can be few complaints from the away dugout with the result, given the listlesness of the United performance.

Mourinho made eight changes from the weekend, handing debuts to five players, but Schneiderlin was quiet, Rashford struggled and Rojo had a stinker.

Ultimately it was a failed experiment and one that he may not be keen to repeat anytime soon.

United will still be confident of qualifying to the next round of the Europa League.

Next up in the Europa League, Zoya Luhansk visit Old Trafford at the end of the month.

Before that, though, there’s the small matter of trips to Vicarage Road to face Watford in the Premier League and Sixfields Town to face Northampton in the third round of the FA Cup, before champions Leicester City come calling!

What Man Utd manager told BT Sport after the game:

"The second half, the game was even. We were always in control. We were trying to win, they were trying not to lose. It is double unlucky because it was a clear offside."
The second half was better than the first.
In the Europa League, we are going to be the team everyone wants to beat."

On the topic of which players failed to take teir chances, he added:

"I don’t want to go in that direction. I don’t want to personalise. Obviously, some played better than others. It was the first game for some."
