UEFA Champions League semi: Man City hold Madrid to a goalless draw

Manchester City on Tuesday night held Real Madrid to a goalless draw in their UEFA Champions League semi final first leg encounter at the Etihad Stadium.

It was a largely cagey encounter but the visitors improved after the interval and asked some questions of their hosts.

The Citizen's goalkeeper, Joe Hart was the hero of the match with two superb saves.

Hart prevented Casemiro’s header finding the back of the net by sticking out a strong left leg after the Brazilian had latched onto Kroos’ corner in the 80th minute.

In the 83rd minute, the ball fell to Pepe in the six-yard box from a corner kick which the defender hammered goalwards but the hosts’ goalkeeper somehow managed to spread himself large enough to prevent the ball flying into the back of the net.

Earlier in the second half, Carvajal flipped in an inviting cross to the head of Jesé Rodríguez Ruiz, who managed to direct a looping effort on goal which hit the woodwork.
