Carabao (EFL) Cup: Carabao Cup, Chelsea 2-1 Everton, other results

The Carabao Cup is the name given to the EFL Cup or the English League Cup due to a sponsorship deal with Carabao Energy Drink.

The competition was founded in 1960 and is open to all 92 clubs competing in the top four tiers of English football (Premier League, Championship, League One and League Two).

Previous sponsorships have seen the League Cup go through many monikers, including the Milk Cup, Coca-Cola Cup, Carling Cup and Capital One Cupamong others.

Jose Mourinho's Manchester United remain on course to defend their title and they are joined in the fifth round by rivals Manchester City and Arsenal.
Bournemouth and Leicester City are also going to be involved, while Championship team Bristol City are the only non-Premier League side left.

Fifth round games will be played on the week of December 18

Tottenham 2-3 West Ham:

Under fire Hammers fight back from two goals down to dump Spurs out of the Carabao Cup

Toby Alderweireld admits Tottenham received a reality check after throwing away their two-goal lead to lose to West Ham in the Carabao Cup.

Spurs were unbeaten in 11 games and arrived at Wembley after thrashing Liverpool in the Premier League and holding Real Madrid to a draw in the Champions League.

But they were undone by a struggling West Ham side that scored three times in the second half to pull off an unlikely 3-2 win.

Andre Ayew scored twice and Angelo Ogbonna's header completed the turnaround after Dele Alli and Moussa Sissoko had put Tottenham in control.

"We were not flying or anything in our heads, but I think it's a good reality check that you still need to work very hard, even if you're 2-0 up, to get results," Alderweireld said.

Chelsea 2-1 Everton

Everton caretaker manager David Unsworth said his team did him proud despite their Carabao Cup last-16 defeat by Chelsea.

Willian scored the decisive second as Chelsea advanced to the quarter-finals but they were pushed to the final whistle by the rejuvenated visitors.

Chelsea had contained Everton with ease in the first half and led through Antonio Rudiger's looping header.

But the Toffees were sharper after the break as Kevin Mirallas had a shot well saved and Ademola Lookman hit the bar.

Willian drilled a superb low finish home in stoppage time before Dominic Calvert-Lewin netted a consolation.

"I'm a bad loser but I have to say I'm proud of the performance, they were terrific," Unsworth, who has replaced the sacked Ronald Koeman for now, told BBC Radio 5 live.
