Arsenal claimed a convincing 2-0 win over West Brom at the Emirates thanks to a brace from Alexandre Lacazette.
But the game could have panned out differently had the Baggies been awarded a first-half penalty.
The traveling side also hit the post and had a great chance cleared off the line by Nacho Monreal.
Martin Keown said "Referee helped Arsenal beat West Brom, they’re some way behind top clubs"
That’s according to Gunners great Martin Keown, who believes Arsenal are showing encouraging signs but still have a long way to go.
He said: “You have to say [it was] a professional performance from Arsenal - the referee played a major part and I'm sure Tony Pulis will have something to say about that.
“Arsenal picked up three vital points but they are some way behind the top two in the Premier League at the moment. “There are little partnerships building in the team.
Tony Pulis on the othee hand slammed Alexis Sanchez for ‘cheating’ during Arsenal’s eventful victory over West Brom at the Emirates.
An Alexandre Lacazette brace settled the affair in north London but Pulis was rightly aggrieved by a number of decisions that went against his side.
Before Arsenal took the lead midway through the first half, Jay Rodriguez was fouled by Shkodran Mustafi in the area but referee Bobby Madley decided against awarding a penalty.
A clearly agitated Pulis told Sky Sports after the defeat: ‘Everyone has seen what happened today.
‘Sanchez was first given a free-kick on the edge of the box, he actually dived and should be booked for diving.
‘Then the ref has a great view and it’s a stonewall penalty [for West Brom]. The great thing is everyone has seen it so I don’t need to talk about it.
‘The player [Mustafi] could be sent off as well, so it would have been a penalty for us and then playing against ten men.
‘Sanchez falls over, it’s cheating. Jay is honest and doesn’t get anything from it.’
Arsene Wenger, meanwhile, defended the officials’ decision not to award a penalty, saying: ‘Mustafi tackled and touched the West Brom player, it could have been given.
‘But the ref gave the advantage and rightly so because they were in a position to score… They didn’t, they hit the post.’
Arsene Wenger’s side went into the game on an improved run of form after successive defeats away to Stoke and Liverpool, with three wins and a draw in all competitions since the loss at Anfield.
And they continued their momentum last night as two goals from Alexandre Lacazette handed them three points.
It was their third straight home win in a row, with Lacazette scoring in each of those victories.
They have also not conceded a league goal in four games since their 4-0 horror show away at Liverpool last month.
