Raheem Sterling fired a stoppage time winner and was later sent off as Manchester City beat Bournemouth 2-1 at the Vitality Stadium.
Pep Guardiola made four changes to the side that drew with Everton on Monday but it was Bournemouth who started the better and took the lead with 13 minutes gone, with Charlie Daniels firing an unstoppable effort into the top corner from an acute angle.
However, City were level a matter of minutes later when Gabriel Jesus latched onto a David Silva through ball to slot home.
Asmir Begovic ensured the sides went to the interval all square after he saved from both Danilo and David Silva as City probed for another.
Joshua King went closest for Bournemouth in the second half but his well-struck effort came back off the bar, and the Cherries were denied their first point of the season when Sterling fired home deep into stoppage time.
But David Silva teed up Gabriel Jesus to equalise eight minutes later and just as it looked like victory would elude City, Sterling struck deep into stoppage time with the aid of a big deflection off Andrew Surman.
Sterling, who had earned City a 1-1 draw with Everton on Monday, celebrated by throwing himself into the away section and was shown a second yellow card by referee Mike Dean.
The home side held their own until City equalised after David Silva's through-ball set up Gabriel Jesus to scuff home. Nathan Ake should have seen red for a later trip on Jesus, but Mike Dean only gave a yellow.
In the second half, Dean allowed both Steve Cook and Vincent Kompany to remain on the pitch for wild fouls on Jesus and Jermain Defoe respectively. Then City grabbed a late, late winner when Sterling's deflected shot found the net.
Dean then intervened to send Sterling off for his exuberant celebrations which led to fans coming onto the pitch to celebrate with their players, leaving Bournemouth pointless after three games, as City moved top before the rest of the weekend's games.
MAN OF THE MATCH
Charlie Daniels (Bournemouth): The other goalscorer, Gabriel Jesus, was also threatening. But Daniels is a defender by trade and his goal, coming from an almost impossible position with a world class strike, was the finest moment of the match. Add to that the stern defence put up from Bournemouth, and Daniels earned his recognition.
