Romelu Lukaku and Marcus Rashford scored for Jose Mourinho to beat City in Houston, Texas to claim the Manchester bragging rights.

Romelu Lukaku put United ahead after a poor piece of goalkeeping from Ederson then Marcus Rashford added a second two minutes later to put United in control.

Five thousand miles away from home, Manchester United took the local bragging rights in the first ever derby to be played outside England.

After a relatively even first half-hour, United took control of the tie with two goals in the space of two minutes just before half-time.

Lukaku's goal came in the 37th minute, meeting a long ball in front of City goalkeeper Ederson - who had unwisely sprinted out of his box in an effort to clear - before finishing on the half-volley from a tight angle.

Two minutes later, rash defending from City caused Rashford goal, as England international Marcus latched onto Henrikh Mkhitaryan's pass and, left all alone on the right of the City penalty area, guided the ball beyond Ederson.
Pep Guardiola and Jose Mourinho should have met on tour last season in the Bird's Nest Stadium in Beijing, China, but heavy rain meant the game was called off.

The game was City's first pre-season match while United secured their third win.

In team news, Guardiola handed Ederson and Kyle Walker their debuts. David Silva didn't start due to a groin problem. Mourinho was without Juan Mata after he picked up an injury in the last game while Romelu Lukaku and Marcus Rashford were paired together for the first time.

Players wore shirts printed with the Manchester bee emblem in solidarity following the Arena bombing. The worker bee is a historic symbol of the city deriving from its industrial past.
