Boxing fans were proclaiming Anthony Joshua the new Muhammad Ali after a picture of their two most famous knockouts were circulated side by side on social media.

MD took to his twitter account to post " the resemblance is insane".

Joshua stopped heavyweight legend Wladimir Klitschko in the eleventh round thanks in part to an explosive uppercut.

Klitsckho went down in the fifth round and as Joshua stood over him, he was snapped mid-celebration.

Joshua would have to put Klitsckho down a second time moments later before eventually finishing the fight to send the 90,000 Wembley crowd into a frenzy.

It will go down as an iconic moment for the 27-year-old and many believe he could be as good and as big as Muhammad Ali.

Many famous pictures of Ali exist, but none more iconic than the American standing over his fallen foe, Spnny Liston in their heavyweight title fight.

And boxing fans could not help but notice the resemblance between Ali’s knockout celebration and Joshua’s.

Anthony Joshua warned Wladimir Klitschko he was about to be knocked out:

Anthony Joshua has revealed he told Wladimir Klitschko he would ‘whoop his ass in the next round’ during their epic battle.

Joshua laughed when asked what he was saying: ‘I told him I’d whoop his ass in the next round.’

Klitschko seemed to be on his way to edging a points victory before a thunderous uppercut from Joshua stopped him dead.

Joshua went on to knock Klitschko down twice in the space of 30 seconds before the referee stopped the fight with the Ukrainian trapped on the ropes.

The eleventh round knockout was all the more remarkable after Klitschko sent Joshua to the floor in the sixth and dominated the exchanges from there.

Joshua then pulled off an incredible comeback.

Joshua could not stop smiling when he appeared in the press conference almost two hours after his triumph and revealed what he was saying to Klitschko during the fight.

Cameras picked up Joshua urging Klitschko on and talking to him in the clinch.

Joshua laughed when asked what he was saying: ‘I told him I’d whoop his ass in the next round.’

He added that he said to his coaches at the end of the eighth round they should not be worried.
