LIVERPOOL BEAT SWANSEA 1-2
James Milner netted a late penalty as Liverpool came from behind to beat Swansea City 2-1 and pose further questions over Francesco Guidolin's future at the Liberty Stadium.
Leroy Fer's fourth Premier League goal of the season put the Swans, whose last home win came against Liverpool in May, ahead in the eighth minute.
Leroy Fer opened the scoring in the first half for the hosts, but Jurgen Klopp’s side rallied after the break, with goals from Roberto Firmino and Milner making it five straight wins in all competitions for the Reds.
Liverpool came into the game looking to make a statement against a Swansea side with just one win to their name so far. But it was the under-pressure Swans who started the match the better, and they took the lead when Fer took advantage of a touch off Dejan Lovren to finish from close range when he would otherwise have been in an offside position.
Swansea record signing Borja Baston missed two chances to make it a more one-sided first half, while Liverpool failed to even register an attempt on target in an opening period that saw Adam Lallana limp off with an injury and his replacement Daniel Sturridge booked for diving.
However, half-time proved the turning point as Liverpool came flying out of the blocks, racking up a host of chances in the second 45 and finally drawing level when Firmino took advantage of some slack defending to head home Jordan Henderson’s high and hopeful punt back into the box after a free-kick had crashed into the Swansea wall.
The chances continued to flow for Klopp’s side, but it took a late penalty to secure them the win, with Firmino pushed over in the box and Milner dispatching the spot-kick straight down the middle. Swansea could have snatched a point right at the death, only for Mike van der Hoorn to shoot wide when unmarked at the back post, but the result was – on balance – just about the right one.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp voiced frustration at his side's first-half performance but felt they ended up deserved 2-1 winners at Swansea on Saturday.
The Merseysiders went second in the Premier League table after producing a second-half turnaround, securing a fourth consecutive league win after Leroy Fer had given Swansea the lead at the break.
Costa puts Chelsea back on track as they beat Hull City 2-0
CHELSEA 2-0 HULL CITY
Diego Costa got Chelsea back to winning ways after recording a 2 – 0 away victory against Hull City.
After failing to threaten the goalkeeper in the first half, William got the Blues going with a clinical finish before Costa scored the second in a similar fashion to put the lead beyond doubt as it ended 2 – 0.
Costa's goal restored Chelsea’s confidence. Victor Moses made his first start for Chelsea since 2013 and was vindicated by Antonio Conte as he played 85 minutes before giving way for Pedro.
