REAL MADRID BEAT SEVILLA 3-2 TO LIFT UEFA SUPER CUP

Dani Carvajal of Real Madrid is congratulated by team mates

Extra-time goal from Dani Carvajal, after Sergio Ramos' 93rd minute equaliser, hands Zinedine Zidane more European silverware

Real Madrid have added the UEFA Super Cup to their Champions League crown after Dani Carvajal's wonderful solo goal in extra-time beat Sevilla.

The Europa League winners lost Unai Emery - mastermind of their three successive cup triumphs - to Paris Saint-Germain over the summer, replacing him with ex-Chile coach Sampaoli but looked set to claim another European crown, leading 2-1 deep into stoppage time.

But after Sergio Ramos headed home a 93rd minute equaliser, Carvajal's slaloming run and outstanding finish handed Zinedine Zidane his second trophy as Los Blancos boss.

Madrid had taken the lead in the 21st minute, 20-year-old Spanish international Marco Asensio thumping a tremendous, dipping left-foot shot into the top corner.

However, Fernando Vazquez, Sevilla's £13million summer signing from Palermo, volleyed level on the stroke of half-time, before Yevhen Konoplyanka rolled home a penalty in the second period.

Just as Sevilla looked set to win the trophy at the third attempt - having lost to Madrid in 2014 and Barcelona last year - boyhood fan Ramos, who started his career with the club, nodded home from close ranger after good work from Jesus Vasquez.

And after Thimothee Kolodziejczak had been sent off in the first half of extra-time, Carvajal's moment of inspiration won the game for the 11-times European champions.
